I think here in the state, 308 or 30-06 is all ..

... you'll ever need. 300 Win Mag is about the max of what I'm comfortable shooting a lot on the bench. Even then, I have to take a break after 7-10 shots. I've hunted a good bit with 308 Win and I'm confident in what it does for me. That said, if you shoot 300 Win Mag well, then do it. I have a friend, a great big fella, that only owns one bolt action and its' 300 Win Mag. He's hunted all over the US with it. He'll sit at the bench and shoot it all day when we go to the range before deer season. If I'm ever lucky enough to do an African hunt, I'd take what Doug took. A 9.3 and a 300 WM and,.. and for a scoped pistol and 378GNR. But I certainly wouldn't be getting rid of a fine shooting 308 Win. Its a solid 300 yard+ shooter (you your'e a 300 yard + shooter) and carries plenty of stank down range for 95% of what you want to kill.

Just my opinion.
