need a buffer, and nor does a 1911 properly made and with good stock 16-16.5lb spring. A buffer will shorten slide stroke to a slight degree which can compromise function, and dust cover of slide cuts the buffers which could possibly come apart and truly jam the gun. If recoil spring guide base getting stamped hard enough to deform the metal, simply swap to a slightly heavier spring, as small an increment as will stop the excessive impact. A super heavy spring may compromise stroke, and increases recoil velocity towards the front and increases load on slide stop pin and hole in frame.
