Frames can then be investment cast with flow additives, or chunks can be heated and hammer forged into rough shape and then machined, investment cast taking far less machining. Sorry I was not specific enough in delineating investment cast from forging. But then Gary would have called me a know-it-all had I gone into such detail, and you know that is a fact, Mr. Taffin. I have been into 1911s as "my thing" since the 1960s and still have my bullseye gun Bob Day and I threw together in San Antonio 50yrs ago.
