Dropping them into water, right out of the oven helps, but full power .454 loads will distort the base.
Gas checks after powder coating will eliminate the problem, or lowering the pressure until accuracy returns with plain based, powder coated bullets. Correctly sized bullets (gas checked) from Montana Bullets work well also, without powder coating.
First sign of leading, or accuracy problems, try something slightly different. The most difficult to analyze are the “self pulled” accuracy problems with a .454.
You probably know all this, but it’s easy to forget when you’re having fun.
