I call it "The Micro-Wave Generation"

Growing up, Mom baked potatoes in the oven. First in wood stoves and later as we got more affluent, in electric stoves. A baked potato took about 45 minutes to cook. We did not start getting anxious to have them until about 40 minutes to pass.

Fast forward some years. I am standing by the microwave oven, getting impatient for my baked potato, AFTER 3 OR 4 MINUTES! When I caught myself on this I had to laugh. And change my attitude.

It's the "I want it now and I don't want to plan for it or wait for it."

As I explained to a friend once, "In the old west, if you missed the stagecoach today it was OK. There will be another one next month."

Living in Africa brought much of that back as life is much slower there, especially away from the cities in the bush. Like here, ranch life is still much like it always has been.
