Gold Cut was the sights. I was shooting in combat shoots at the time (late 70s) and I saw several Gold Cups lose their sights shooting the 230 ball ammo. The adjustable rear would vibrate loose and then fall apart and the front sight would just fly off. The Gold Cup wasn't meant to shoot the normal scruffy bearded combat shooter's ammo. It was the gentleman's Colt meant for 185 grain pointed semi wadcutters.
