can see from the replies there are many opinions and LOTS of experience from a variety of handgun hunters. I have shot all of the cartridges mentioned and at the age of 75 am finding that the recoil is becoming an issue with me because of arthritis in my hands and fingers. I do have a Reeder 510 Hunter that I have carried for many years in the field in Alaska. I shoot both the short and long GNR 510 rounds and have killed hogs with both. The short round doesn't kick quite as much and the long has a little more with a little more punch. A day at the range and about 25 rounds or so is all I can handle. I don't know if that is an issue with you but it should be considered. I shoot the 350 grain loads S & L from Gary's reloading manual. The bullets can be found at Montana Bullet Works. They are really great people there and can get you the bullets you want or you can do like several on here do and cast your own. The people on here that cast can give you a lot of information even if you are experienced in casting. I have 475 LB in an Encore and brother that sucker kicks! Not many of those and I call it quits. BUT, for a hunter it will knock down anything you are liable to encounter. For paper cutting not so much. Good luck in whatever your decision is and once again welcome.
