I appreciate you chiming in with your thoughts on the matter. I'm an admitted newcomer to big bore revolvers beyond 44 mag, and I'm new to the world of your fine firearms as well.

What I meant to say in my previous post was that I would like to have a "special" caliber available for reloading purposes. I was thinking I could go with another pistol down the road, and use the same caliber bullet.

I was thinking a 475LB would be complemented easily with 480 Ruger, while a 500 S&W would be easily complemented by a 500 special.

I'm less familiar with the 510 caliber, and I'm learning as I go here. The negatives I've heard so far is that the jacketed bullet selection is less diverse than it is on 500 caliber.

I've looked, but maybe not in the right place - what is the difference between the 500 GNR and the 501 GNR?

Regardless, I'm hearing what you're saying about the 500 S&W being unwieldy.
